Bring Back Understanding And Happiness
The subject of love and the attainment of a happy relationship have been a challenge that human beings have faced since ancient times. New theories, methods and strategies for addressing relationships come and go yet love, relationships and marriage remain problems for most.
What are the “tools” couples need to make their relationships work?
How can they have good communication, reach understanding and find happiness?
Relationship Coaching (also known as Couples Therapy or Marriage Therapy) is a way of helping couples solve their relationship problems. In the course of Relationship Coaching each partner may also work on their personal development and communicate their needs and wants from the relationship. The goal is to come up with strategies and agreements that improve understanding between partners. Arguing and fighting CAN be replaced with good communication.
Couple Therapy and Couples Counseling are synonymous and share the same goals as Relationship Coaching. Simply stated, the objective of these types of therapies is to improve the couple’s relationship. Usually, any such form of counseling is done with both partners in the room, although each individual may occasionally have one-on-one therapy to address themselves specifically. While some couples are comfortable with the idea of therapy or counseling, others prefer the proactive approach of Coaching. A couple’s coach is like an athletic trainer who trains you in using your powers and potentials to achieve your goals: in this case, repair, improve or save your marriage or relationship.
What Does Relationship Coaching Solve?
Couple Therapy, Couple Coaching or Relationship Coaching will be started in order to accomplish certain predetermined goals such as:
Develop communication skills between partner
Teach the tools partners need to stop arguments and fights and resolve their differences through discussion
Address and try to resolve infidelity and restore trust
Work to resolve financial problems and irresponsibility
Improve problem-solving within the relationship
Determine and agree upon relationship responsibilities
Constructively work on life changes that may have altered the original course of the relationship
Address differences in belief systems
Help to overcome differences in opinion regarding ethics, morality, integrity, virtue, etc.
Figure out solutions to problems with the couple’s whole family
Identify and agree upon life goals and future plans
As far as the duration of Couple Coaching, it depends on the needs and wants of the couple, the severity of their issues or differences and how the initial sessions go. This is to say that some instances of Couple Coaching may last as short as four sessions or for as long as several months and over a dozen sessions.
The Benefits Of Relationship Coaching
The main idea behind Relationship Coaching or Couple Coaching is that partners who get into a situation that they cannot resolve or work through, experience a sort of an impasse or a dead end. Every time they attempt to resolve their issue or issues, they end up with fights and upsets that get them absolutely nowhere. By entering Couple Coaching, the couple is bringing on the help of a third person, and not just any third person. They are bringing on a professional who is knowledgeable, well-trained and experienced in the field of helping couples to overcome whatever issues they might be struggling with.
Once Coaching has begun, the couple’s approach changes from arguing and fighting to constructive efforts to address their problems. That is not to say that there will never be heated moments in a coaching session. However, there will be an experienced professional in the room to help partners sort through any disorder or chaos that may come to the surface. Both of you will have a chance to communicate your concerns and upsets regarding the relationship to each other and to the coach. This back-and-forth communication is a way to constructively and positively discuss issues that were unresolvable before, simply because your partner and you would grow too upset and argumentative to get to the core of the issues and reach a resolution. The main focus and goal of Couple Coaching is to address those relationship problems you could not addressed on your own, with the help and guidance of an expert.

When Is Relationship Coaching Used?
Studies show that couples do not usually seek help until about six years after problems begin, which is unfortunate because the more time that passes since the inception of a problem, the harder it is to address that problem. Generally speaking, there are four different scenarios under which a couple will seek outside help or Coaching to address their relationship:
The couple has been together for some time, has had a problem or problems in an area or areas of the relationship, and has been unable to address it on their own. This is probably the most common scenario in which couples seek Relationship Coaching.
Another scenario is called Premarital Coaching and, as the name suggests, occurs when a couple that is about to get married meets with a Relationship Coach to prepare for marriage. This is done so that the couple may explore areas of difficulty or concern that they already have, which might develop into a more-serious issue later on in their marriage. This is a great way to address such issues sooner rather than later and to work with the Coach to plan out some of the goals, personal values, expectations and ground rules of the marriage.
One other scenario is when a relationship or marriage is on the rocks yet the couple has not given up on the relationship and seeks help to salvage it. Relationship Coaching / Marital Coaching is then used to clear up the trouble and repair the relationship.
Finally, there is the scenario of a relationship or marriage that is at a point of no return. The couple is seeking divorce but wishes to separate amicably and respectfully. To accomplish that they may seek Relationship Coaching.
